the 4wd added about 100Kg to the GT-R.Not too sure if loses or gains weight when the roof is chopped off but there is a road test of the 350Z convertible against the 1275Kg Honda S2000 which also complains about the weight.
But even the Honda is porky compared to the '89 1190Kg [1] RS13
180SX/200SX (Jap/UK) and the cast iron CA18DET will go to 330bhp with fairly cheap bolt on's. It's a lot cheaper to bolt on power than trying to remove weight (just taking the back seats out of the RS13 beats any possible weight saving to be had on the Z). The RS13 is also 1inch lower than the new Z to start with and even though it's a
12 years older design the CD is the same. With a 250bhp engine from the Silvia S15 a R(P)S13 will do everything a new Z will and carry two (or three!) extra passengers. Looks like car development has peaked and is now going backwards.
[1] MGB GT V8 owners will say that's still 100Kg too heavy!
