260Z no compression in 4 & 6

I'm looking at buying a 74 260Z and it has no compression in cylinders number 4 and 6. The rest of the cylinder is within spec. I was thinking maybe CAM type problem? has anyone else seen something like this?

Thanks,

Dan

Pour oil in the bad cylinders ( one at a time) Check your compression again each time. If the pressure increases, that would indicate that the rings are bad. If the compression stays the same your valves are bad.

If it is a timing problem, all of your cylinders would be off. However it is possible that the timing chain slipped and you have some bent valves. Check your #1 cylinder to see if it is at top dead center while the distributor is aligned with the # 1 plug wire post. Your timing mark on the crank should be in alignment as well.

Good luck, Randy

Cylenders 4 and 6 are not next to eachother in a L26 engine.

The prob. could be anything from bent/broken/burned valves to cracked head or even cracke block. check for oil in water/water in oil, also look to see if valves in question are moving correctly. You may need to pull the head to diagnose, since you'll pretty much have to do this to correct whatever problem exists, the seller may let you pull off the head. [Remember to secure the timing chain before unbolting the cam-sprocket!]
