Suspension Advice !!

I'm thinking my beloved 280ZX may be nearing the time to replace the stock shocks ( though it's only clocked up 66,000 orig. kms ) , I guess some things just need replacing after 20 years regardless ?

Anyway...the current characteristics are : wallowey ( as usual ), but also rough and bumpy over anything like train tacks, small pot holes etc....probably due to them being virtually always bottomed out ?

I basically just want a nice plush ride around town, nothing too hard or sporty like, as I mainly just like to cruise around in it..

So if you have and recomendations or suggestiond please let me know

Also, what should I expect to pay ?

Just go buy some non sporty-like replacement struts. I have no idea what they cost, but shop around at all the usual sources. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

Giggle Cream - it makes dessert *funny*!

I'd highly recomend buying replacements from the dealer. They aren't that expencive and will give you the ride you are after. With aftermarket ones you may save some money but who knows what kind of ride quality you'll end up with. KYB's are good but they -are- pretty sporty feeling stuts. Also a warning there are two different length rear stuts for 280ZX's depending on the year, if the wrong ones are installed the back end will either be too high or too low so make sure you get the right ones for your year model and someone checks the distance from the spring perch to the eyelet.

Thanks for that info Steve, I was looking at going with the KYB ...and they are apparently OE for the Australian version anyway !

Interestingly, KYB only list one part no. ( rear shocks ) for all 280zx '79-'83... KG9113 KYB Gas-A-Just Monotube Gas Shock , though as you've pointed out, i thought I had seen different part numbers for rear shocks on '79-'81 then '82-'83 .. but it may have been another brand I think..

hi i have a real problem on the rear end suspension, I have the most terrible noise and it is so loud, it started outwhen i put my foot on the brakes , i got the left rear wheels bearing replaced and also the pins,. but I still have a magor problem it is still doing it so i took it again and they found it to be miss on the far end of the axel is a circular clip , what do you think i am on a trip so i need help fast from canada in the usa ohio.
