1992 Nissan Sentra Startup Problems

So I've looked around this usenet and looked for a solution to my problem, but couldn't find one... and yes it's yet another startup issue. I have a 1992 Sentra. For a few months it has had issues starting when the engine is warm. In order to start it I had to hold down the gas and crank it for some time. Now when I am driving the car will randomly die. Sometimes I get around it by pushing on the gas, but obviously I can't do this at stop signs. xP I believe the two issues are related, it seems the engine doesn't get enough fuel so it almost dies but if I apply too much gas it will get too much, at least that's how it seems. Though I think it is mostly related to heat, on cool days it will run better. But of course there's an exception... it seems to go through "phases" where for two days it will run fine followed by a day or two of smooth driving. I know this description may not be very good, but I hope someone has an idea of what's going on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
