'86 Pickup idle too fast

May 11, 2004 2 Replies

hi, I have a 1986 Nissan Pickup with carb. Today the idleing stuck to about 4 or 5000 RPM. It was tough getting it back home, luckily I was just a couple of miles from home. Got any ideas where to start looking. There didn't seem to be any stuck cables or anything like that.

Thanks,

kevin

check for a sticking throttle cable

a malfunction wax pellet on the carb

I had an '85 do this. In my case it would do this as the engine warmed up. The spring that was supposed to back the choke off as the engine warmed up had gotten too weak and/or the choke plate would stick in a half-open position.
