88 sentra gauge cluster freaking out.

Looking to buy this car...maybe. I haven't viewed this problem myself yet. 2nd hand info.

Apparently the speedo twitches and jumps and spazzes. That's the cable hanging, right?

The real problem is that the Temp and Fuel gauges apparently wig-out and go dead and then spike suddenly and so it goes. Potentially my 1st Nissan and an old one at that. Any idea what this problem is getting me into? Thanks for the help.

The temp and fuel are a dash voltage regulator issue. Not sure if that model has a cable driven speedo or if it's electronic..

What kind of $ are we talking? And where is it located? Pretty easy to get to/access? Thanks!

On the back of the dash unit. It's been a dozen years since I repaired one of these.

I have no idea of your mechanical skills. Seems simple enough to me, I've seen people break the dash trying to work on them so can't say if it would be easy for you.

I'd probably charge a couple of hundred bucks to do it just because it would take some time doing research to find where it is, how to get it apart to replace it and dig up the repair parts + actually do the repair. We are at $75 an hour if that helps you figure out how difficult this will be to deal with if you ARE good with mechanical things and understand electronics.
