How do I tell if the whiny noise from the front of the engine is the water pump or the power steering pump?
The power steering pump has a little bit of accumulated gunk on it, I assume from leaked fluid -- but -- fluid level in the reservoir is full and I only add a tiny amount once a year. Is it possible the pump is good but a gasket or seal is bad and I'm loosing enough pressure to make it whine? Steering is fine as far as I can tell.
No sign of leaks around the water pump.
Noise is not coming from the fan, valve train, engine, or transmission.
89 Nissan Hardbody pickup, 4x2, Z24i engine; 180,000 miles.
Cost to replace either water pump or power steering pump?
