94 Sentra Alternator

Is it a big job to replace the alternator on a 94 sentra, with a/c/

Thanks

I have it done, and it is not very easy... The access is poor. I did not use lift, so I had to access alternator from the hood. To do so, I had to take out fans from the radiator and put them aside to make some room to take old alternator out and place the new one... Overall it is doable even on the parking lot, but dedicate for the job at least an hour if not experienced. It is possible that the job would be easier if I could access everything from below the vehicle, but with no lift I have to do everything from the upper side, including oil filter change, and this one is a big mess in that car :-)

if you did not use a Nissan OEM alternator you will be doing the job again

I won't be doing the jog again, the tech will......... its a lifetime warranty alternator, the car has 151k, the engine doen't burn oil, the trans is an automatic, how much longer can it last?

But as you stated: it is a piece of cake! So whats the problem with doing it again? :-)

As a professional Technician, I only get "paid" to do it one time, and so does the tech that installed this gentleman's alternator. The company the sold the shop the alternator will warranty the part but not the labor to install it, so guess who pay's the labor charge again ... the customer. And don't think for a minute that the retailer will cough it up , their only responsibility is the part not the labor

that is why I do it right the first time, with FACTORY OEM parts

Not the labor. No shop/tech in their right mind will warranty the labor on parts failures like this, not beyond about 30, -maybe- 90 days...

Another 100K? Enought to go through a dozen aftermarket alternators! You'll get to learn this the hard way like most people do! :-)

I see your point!...........but with a car with 151 k miles, it doesn't make good sense to me to put a $450 or more in a alternator.

Thsnks.

Especially when in your $240 payment, the cost of alternator was about $150 or more (you were not charged more than an hour of labor, weren't you?), and this is covered with warranty...

Even if you have to pay labor cost again, it will be much less than paying $450 + installation for nissan OEM alternator...

Do the math... I did, bought rebuilt at Autozone.com for $119+tax and did the job myself... :-) It wasn't easy to do for the first time, but now, if it fails - the second time will be a breeze :-)

Like your, mine nissan is old (120kmiles/'94) and puting too much money in repair is just not worth it. Especially if you like to have some fun playing with your car repairs yourself :-))

How about the inconvenience of having your car out of service when you need it?

Yes, this is the only problem here... agree :-)

But you are never guarantee to be problem free, even if you buy a new car. With high millage, there is more chances something else will break before this alternator fails on him.
