Belt replacement

Shot in the dark here, but on the 97 Maxima the power steering pump won't loosen unless you reach around behind it and break the pivot bolt loose. Real PITA. Maybe the Sentra is laid out the same way. (Belts on passenger side, power steering pump down low and nearest firewall)

I'm on my first Nissan and the belt adjustment was new to me. It took me a couple of frustrating minutes to figure out that the bolt in the front-center of the pulley locks the pulley in place. That bolt has to be loosened before the adjustment bolt can move anything. Fortunately, I didn't break anything with my fumbling. Have you loosened the center bolt? That could be why the adjustment bolt isn't working.

About "bolt in the front-center of the pulley locks the pulley in place."... Do you mean Lock Nut on Adjustment BOLT for Power Steering Pulley ? If so.. I did.. But it still does not move it anywhere. I see there is a "rainbow" shaft, and Lock Nut position is on the left side of it(front view, passanger side). I assume, in order to have it loose, I need to have it have it positioned in right side of a shaft. Next time will try to push it harder, was afraid to break something.

Remember to loosen the anchoring bolts that put the components on to the motor. That is what they pivit on. Hope it helps.

It sounds like your belt tightens differently than mine. I have an idler pulley that keeps tension on the belt. It has an adjustment bolt that adjusts the tension on the belt. I don't have to move the PS pump or alternator. Sorry, ignore my last note.
