broken headlight

I need to replace a headlight on my 1997 Nissan Primera. Unfortunately I dont have a clue how to get off the plastic to get to the light. Can I do this myself easily without breaking anything or do I have to take the car to the garage?

Thanks! J

If you're replacing a headlight (I'm in the US so I have no idea what a Primera is, sorry) and it's a new model like that, you don't remove any plastic. The bulb should be accessed from behind the headlight housing. Unplug the connector, unscrew a retaining ring and pop out the light.

I assume you mean the lense is broken and you need to replace the whole thing? The bulb goes in from the backside and you shouldn't need to remove anything to get to it.

In the US, the Infiniti G20 through the '96 model year was a Primera without the turbo. '96 was the last year of it. If your '97 is still the same body style as the previous several years, this might work: I broke a headlight on my '96 once, but it was glass not plastic. Assuming the mechanism is at least similar, there were a number of twist-snap sort of connectors around the edges of it. I used a needle nosed pliers with a 90 degree bend in the point to reach in and twist them back to the slots to get it off. It might have been necessary to take off the grill to facilitate access, but at this point I don't remember anymore.
