Nice Nissans

There are some nice looking Nissans around at the moment - distinctive too. Don't you agree? The new Micra is froggy but cool, and way better than the average, bland small car. The Almera's not bad either. the primera looks very sophisticated, while the Terrano and X Trail stand out among the 4x4 crowd. Character - that's what they've all got!

So which one is stylish enough to be the last car you ever buy. Which one is the pinnacle of Nissan's motor making history? Never to be surpassed?

Sadly that day came and went over 10 years ago, before the western worlds governments dictated how cars should look. They started nearly

30 years ago with federal impact bumpers, USA got the ball rolling to make compact Euro and Jap cars look like shit, the domestic product was sufficiently tank like to make it unnoticeable. For a few years it worked really well, all the car makers stuck big ugly boxy black things on the front and back of their cars. Then someone worked out that the laws didn't actually insist they look the research prototype and they could be recessed into the car and hidden under body colour matched covers. Having failed at that attempt they had to come up with something a bit more drastic. Side impact testing that dictated cars had to be tall and slab sided with a high glass line was a good one for starters. As that didn't really stuff the appearance up enough (assuming you like WWII machine gun emplacements with slits for windows) and some firms had started to show signs of being able to engineer around it, they slapped on pedestrian impact testing to give cars a big flat blunt ugly snout.

Never say never.

Yet Nissan has currently got models that don't look like everyone else's.

Not seen the Roadster?

Not in the UK yet and Nissan don't appear to want to sell any in the UK. I see RX8's everywhere 2 or 3 a day but very few Z's maybe 1 a month.

I've not seen one in the flesh yet, but the pictures look superb. But I like the whole range - which is more than I can say for any other mass producer. I reckon they've got some good people in their design team at the moment. Some good prices to be had too. What's yours - I presume you have a Nissan?
