My Nissan Owner's Manual, the Haynes service/repair manual and the Nissan dealer's service advisor all say NissanMatic D -- as you mention -- or Dexron III is just fine. The dealer said Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is fine, too (meets Dexron III specs), so that's what I have in it now...and Mobil 1 motor oil (5w-30) in the engine.
I think he should check that out for sure so there's no doubt in his mind about what to use.
