Water and my AC system

I have a rather odd situation, in that I had to replace my blower motor on my '90 Pathfinder on Tuesday (on Sunday, the blower motor was making an odd sound, and the next day the fan wouldn't come on). Anyway, the sound never went away, and I notice that I have water dripping from the seal around the new blower motor. I have AC, and I was wondering what the problem is likely to be. Also, is this something that I can fix?

Leslie,

Might it be that in the process of replacing the blower that the hose that the A/C drains through got pinched or otherwise clogged? Is there any condensate dripping out of the hose that directs it to the ground under the car?

I had that problem with a TOYOTA shop when I had to have an A/C FIXED while on vacation in a region without Lexus dealerships. They did fix the A/C and a few days later the floor on the passenger side of the car was soaking with water.

I had the Lexus dealer when I got home fix it and they reported that they had crimped the dra> I have a rather odd situation, in that I had to replace my blower motor on

Well, it may be that the evacuation hose is clogged, but the noise appears to be the water hitting the squirrel cage of the blower motor when I turn left. I actually removed the blower motor, and drove to work and watched a LOT of water pouring out everytime I'd turn left (although it certainly lessened after a while). However, I will check out the evacuation hose. Incidentally, what does the evaporator actually do? If I have this water in there is it possible that the evaporator croaked? Is there anything else this might be?

Thanks for any help (buying a new blower motor kinda tapped me out for money, and I can't afford to take it to a repair shop.)

Yes, your AC drain hose is clogged, probably at the top end where it's attached to the condenser housing/drip pan. The water level rose and it splashed all over the blower motor, which is NOT GOOD for them.

This happened to me too, and it can kill the resistor pack as well.

On my 87 Pathy, you get to the housing by removing the glove box and a metal panel behind it. Then you remove the resistor pack, pop four or five spring clips, and pry the top and bottom halves of the housing apart clamshell-style. You MAY get about an inch of working room. Prop the halves apart with your flashlight (you'll need it!) and you may be able to clear out the clog with a long straight stiff wire, like the straight part of a wire coathanger. Just be careful not to damage any of the condenser fins or tubes.

I see two possible causes:

  1. Evaporator drain hose clogged.
  2. The drains for the outside air intake area located under the intake air grille, beneath the lower edge of the windshield , may be clogged, allowing rain water to accumulate there, and gush in.

Good luck!

Actually, it appears that it was just the drain hose was plugged. I fixed that without having to open the dashboard, which was nice. Can anyone tell if there's an easy way to replace a bulb in the dashboard? My low fuel light has never worked (I'm convinced the bulb is burnt out) and I don't want to hack open the dashboard. This isn't super important, but it bugs me all the same.

Thanks for the input on the AC drainage, and thanks for any help with the light.
