01 Maxima SE Transmission Issues/Computer (?) issues

Hello. I've done some searching, but apparently I'm not that good at it, so my apologies if this has been covered over and over, but I'm trying to avoid a dealer trip.

01 Maxima SE Anniversary Edition. Over 125K miles on it, I bought it used, but it still had some miles under warranty at the time, so I've had some 02 sensors replaced, if that's helpful.

Transmission seems to work fine, but then sometimes not want to get out of a low gear. Quite often not out of second or first. But this can be in mid commute, usually after a few stop and go's. If I pull over, turn the car off, and restart it, the problem usually goes away.

It is getting more frequent. It is puzzling to me that turning the car off and on seems to be a temp. fix. I would think if the tranny was whacked that nothing would even temporarily fix it. Am I way off? Either way, this sounds like an expensive fix, and anything too high is going to make me shoot this thing. Yet another electronic problem. The amount of times the "check engine light" comes on and requires another trip over the years has been a real exercise in frustration.

If I didn't love the look and feel of this thing, and if I wasn't so tall....

I apologize, a way off rant. Anyway, I guess in my heart I'm hoping that someone has a link or knows this matter, and I can just pop out a magic part and replace it and be on my way.

Does the "OD off" light flash? It could be a couple things like a sticky solenoid in the trans (was the fluid every changed?) or an electrical problem. You're really going to need someone that knows what they are doing to troubleshoot it. A Max with 125K is nothing. If it was taken care of. Could be a big money pit if it wasn't.

I'm 6'3" and love my '01 too.

"Does the "OD off" light flash? "

Sometimes upon startup it does, yes.

That's an error. You need to have the codes read to determine the fault. Take it to a good transmission shop before it gets any worse.
