89 maxima clicking sound under the left side dash when starting

i tried to start the car to day and the relay for the ignition was making a clicking noise when i tried to start the car and nothing else wanted to start. the battery is still good cause it holds charge, i've even tried to jump start it and still would not start.

can any one help me diagnose the problem of this maxima??

Check Fuses, alarm, M/T clutch -or- A/T gear selector sw. Try giving direct

+12V to starter solenoid = ensure starter is ok. (Its relatively easy; just to follow the thin wire coming up from starter solenoid, find connector, take wire to connect it to +pole.) Check

For the starter to work you need:

A good battery A good starter Good connections from the battery to the starter. Good control system (ignition switch, fuses, as in Wilkinki's post)

If the connections appear rusted, clean your battery cable terminals by immersing them in water with baking soda, clean the battery terminals the same way. Some older battery manuals suggested using vaseline to protect the terminals from the battery acid. If you use the felt discs on the battery, coat them with vaseline.
