95 maxima (GLE) with 205,000-Anyone get more miles out of one.

I have a 95 SE 165k. Just spend $2500 in repairs.......nothing to do w/ engine. Engine very strong.

The 3.0 engine is perhaps the most reliable and durable engine on the market.

I have a '95 GLE with 146K miles...it's still going strong and can totally smoke my wife's 2005 V6 Camry XLE, not to mention out handle it

My 95 SE has only 107k, the engine is bullet proof. My biggest issue is sitting in the car for extended (2+ hours) periods, the driver's seat is quite worn. We've got a 4k trip coming up that I'm not really looking forward to because of the seat. Anyone have suggestions about replacing the seat?

If you want a stock replacement, there are plenty of 4th Gens available for parts... post back if you have a color/leather, etc. preference.

In the theme of this thread: my 96 GLE has 145k... Midwest (snow-belt) weather has taken a toll on the body and underbody and I have some rust... but otherwise, it runs pretty close to the way it did when I bought it (used, with 43k on it in 2000).

I currently have a 1986 Maxima with 255k ( the engine runs great), am looking for a 95/96 vintage Maxima. I saw a 1996 with 370k, still running perfectly, am looking at a 95 SE with 188k, IMHO this is low mileage for the Maxima 6 cylinder engine. With routine maintenance (eg frequent oil changes), my history is that the engines just keep on running well.

Often overlooked is the anti-freeze. It's epxensive replace the water pump on the Maxima $400 plus parts, so spend a little extra, avoid silicate loaded anti--freeze like the green Prestone, and use the OEM nissan antifreeze.

thats excellent advise, the best extra ten bucks every 30k miles you could spend, but be prepare to be flamed for it.

posted that same suggestion several times, and got roasted by the 5 buck anti freeze is fine nuts.

and gee to think, I am only a chemical engineer - what the hell would I know about corrosion,,,LOL

Keep driving it, there are a few that come onto my dealership with well over

engines don't have a shelf life, they just don't give up the ghost after so many miles.

Our 97 Max. has 160K and still running strong. Our last Nissan was a Sentra and lasted until 275K with the original clutch. Had to get rid of it because the frame had rot out on us. I think this Max. will go bejond the 200K mark. I change the oil every 3 - 4K and the antifreeze every 25K. And yes I use the Prestone antifreeze. This is the NEW every engine/car formula.

My coments were for 2000 Max and later - different engine/alloy composition.

I still say, for a few 1/10ths of a cent per mile - it aint worth the risk.

I have a 96 Max GLE with over 295K. Runs beautifully. Have had no major repairs other than struts, front axles and general maintenance. Oh, besides the water pump that was just replaced this month. The only thing that has caused me the most issues is all of the emissions stuff over the last 2 years. Once they were replaced, been fine ever since. Um...I almost forgot, I use all high quality oils and plugs but simple things like brakes are the more inexpensive kind. Just replaced the A\T filter and gasket this year. It was disgusting. The trans was trying to go out but it is cool now. After almost 9 yrs of ownership, had a car throw a tire tread on me on I-285. First major body damage. Replaced the factory Bose with a later model and had to replace speakers and an antennae from EBay. Also, got a Short Intake filter kit from Ebay. It's the only mod on the car. Now it accelerates better, smoother transition between gears, nice little roar on acceleration and has saved gas so far. Sorry to ramble but I love my little car, has served me very well.

How different? The 95-99 Maxima has a 3.0 liter V6, 24 valves, Engine designation VQ30DE. The 2000 and 2001 Maxima has a 3.0 liter V6, 24 valves, Engine designation VQ30DE-K. Even the 2002+ Maxima's with the 3.5 liter VQ35DEs aren't drastically different from the original. DIfferent, yes, but not by orders of magnitude different.

Nissan made a fantastice motor, the VQ, and basically modified it through the years.

Been doing this since new. No problems and the car is 10...TEN yrs old. Original water pump and radiator. The only thing I have changed related to the cooling system are the hoses. I think I'll continue with my practice.

Wow $2,500 in repairs? Wow What a shame.

When I told people that my car will Never need engine service until 200k (I probably will need a new cluster by then, I am in my 100K now and it runs better than any cars out there) they called my claim as BS. They don't know, my car has a rolling effect, meaning it can go 5-6 miles without engine's assistance.

Fair enough, but also bear in mind that water pumps tend to go at about 150 to 200000 miles. So I guess we'll see.

so over 200K miles you save what - 40 bucks, and risk a $800 water pump replacement, and cooling system repair,at another grand,,?
