95 Maxima: Replacing Lights in Switches

Could anyone advise me on how I can replace lights in the switches on my

1995 Maxima SE? It's becoming harder to find them while driving at night. Do I need special tools? Can I somehow take off the front templates to replace them or do I have to remove the entire dashboard or get to them from underneath by dashboard?

Lights in switches that I have to replace include:

-emergencey flashers switch

-from my climate control: Auto, Econ, Off, Defroster

-from my Bose stereo system: several of the number light switches are burned out

-the lights in my seat heaters switches

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hazard Switch - Nissan does not sell a replacement bulb for this... they recommend replacing the switch. People have successfully replaced the bulb, but replacements bulbs were scavenged from junkyards - so you might have to do the same.

Climate control bulbs - there are 4 bulbs behind the climate control that are all replaceable. The bulbs come in little plastic carriers and run about 5 bucks a piece from your local dealer. You will not be able to find equivalent replacements at your local parts stores - but I suppose you can try to get creative. Given that my original bulbs lasted 10 years, it was a no-brainer to spend the 20 bucks and just replace all 4 again with factory parts. Go to

- they have instructions on how to pull the center console apart - you'll need to do that to get the climate control unit out - the bulbs are easy after that.

Bose Stereo - I can't help you with that. It's likely possible, again with some creativity, but there aren't any standard replacement bulbs available. Again, you'll need to pull the center console to get the headunit out, then dismantle it to get the front faceplate off.

Heated seat switches - pop the switch out with a screw driver - bulbs are on the back. I don't have experience with this personally - so I'm not sure if replacement bulbs are sold or if you'll have to find something that fits at your local auto store or radio shack.

All your bulbs require dismantling of the center console - so either you'll get really good at it :) or you can just try get it all done at the same time. Be sure to have your dealer order the climate control bulbs for you - they are not usually stocked.

Hope that helps,
