There is a special o2 sensor socket. I can't recall if I used it for that location (I changed all o2 sensors together and don't remember the details) and you haven't elaborated on what tool you've tried unsuccessfully.
It's only a $14 tool at any parts store and it might be exactly what you need. Much less than the cost of a sensor.
