Maximia CV Boots, Can I change them?

I've changed CV boots on several other cars without a problem.

I've got the Chilton's manual on my 96 Maxima, but true to form, there is very little detail on it in the book on putting on new boots.

Once I get the axles off, is it possible to change both the Outer and Inner boots? Only the outer boots are really going bad, the inners look OK yet, but when I have them out, I may as well change them.

On most other's that I've worked on, I'd take a heavy punch and knock the end off the axle, and slide both the inner and outer boot off the same end. However, I noticed in looking at the driver's side, that there's some sort of other boot in the middle (very short, very small) that will prevent me from sliding the inner boot over it.

Can both ends of the axle be knocked off in the same manner so that the boots can be changed? The manual says something about using a press, but is that to just disassemble the joint to rebuild it - which I shouldn't have to do?

If the inner boots look fine, leave them be. Here's a site with detailed intructions on the outer boots.
