Please recommend some rear speakers

All, I have recently been told that due to the height limitations of the rear deck lid on a 99 Max that I am limited in the replacement speakers that I can install without significant modification. They said the only speakers they would recommend were $300+ Boston Acoustics. Others would fit but they would be on the very low end as far as quality. Is the limitations they speak of true? What speakers would fit good and sound great?

does your car have a factory bose stereo or not?

i'll guess and say that it doesnt have bose, so it takes oversized 6.5" round speakers in the back, anything that size or smaller will fit (as long as you can find a way to support them). boston acoustics makes really good stuff but is kind of expensive, there are other speaker brands that are good quality and will sound better than factory. if 'they' being a stereo shop told you that those are the only speakers that would fit, i would find another place.

goto this site and configure your car, it will show you what speakers you can get...there it says 6.75" as the size..

300 buck Boston acoustics that cost 30 buck to manufacture????? close your ears to the sales guy don't let them run the demo bring a friend set the base & treble to neutral use only the head unit to play your CD that you are familiar with have friend switch between different speakers while your eyes are closed listen carefully

what kind of sound are you looking for? are you going for a balanced sound for all passengers or primarily concerned with the front seat? more treble? base? vocals?..... surface mount tweeters can brighten up the back without removing seats to get at the rear deck... adding a sub in the trunk will fill in the bottom. for vocals you will need to replace the existing speakers. they should be 6-3/4" prices range from prices start at about $50 and go on up... more $$ does not necessarily mean they sound better. often is means they have a bigger advertising budget.
