Hello, I'm ready to order my 350Z. Since I've heard the Bose audio system really sucks, and I'm not found of leather seats, I've decided to go for the baseline model. As I live in France, I will have to wait until Spring 2004 before the baseline model become available. Shame on Nissan France, they only sell the Pack model (full options) in 2003, which is about 3000 Euros more expensive. I still have to choose the color, probably between Chrome Silver and Daytona Blue. Please, give me a hint because I have no opportunity to see the real aspect, since there are no 350Z on the road in Europe for now. Which color look better under the sun, under cloudy sky, when the car has not been washed for a few days...? Which color give a better aspect for the painting, emphasizes the shapes and the curves of the body... ? About the audio system, what should I do if I want a better sound in my Z ? I've read the Clarion head unit is poor quality, and I ready to change it. Is it possible without damaging the interior and keeping it the factory aspect ? If you have picture or web link, I would appreciate. Thanks.

Thanks for your answer. I agree the Daytona Blue is more stunning, and I'm going to love it ! About the audio system, which speakers did you change ?
- the tweeters ?
- the mid-range speakers in the doors ?
- the mid range speakers in the back panels ? I've read the speakers at the back are non sense, because the sound has to come from the front to get a good stereo image. What do you think ?

Chrome silver all the way. I am a designer so I take things close to heart. Sliver is played BUT... blue has too many contrasting colors. the break light and the parking lights... never mind the rims themselves that are CHROME sliver. I have chrome sliver. looks sick since the whole car matches. and the red and yellow lights complement the car. so you only have really 3 colors instead of 5 on the blue. (rims. break lights... parking lights., the actual color of the car and the door handles. (oh and the black tent on the trunk and side doors)
to much... silver just works on that car at least.
I just realized there isn't a freaking play or pause button on my boze system. lol. crap is right.

What do you mean "difficult to put in properly" ? Did you re-use the original wires ? Are the mounting not standard diameter or fixing ? Or is it difficult to undress your Z ?!!

Well, since there seems to be a lot of interest in my "speaker upgrade", here are some additional details that may help you.
After I brought my new 350Z Enthusiast home, I realized that the stock speakers were very inadequate. Since I am not a high-end audiophile, I did not want to add amplifiers or speakers that cost $200 - $300 per pair. So I checked out many good quality speakers that could directly replace the terrible stock Clarions (after seeing the Clarions removed by my installer, I can't believe how cheap and poorly made they are - shame on Nissan for this).
I finally settled on the Infinity Reference speakers because of their reputation and their fantastic sound. I took them to a professional installer near my home because I wanted a perfect job that completely kept the OEM look of the car. The installer advised me that the door speakers require a special 1" spacer to allow the speakers to clear the windows (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT). A good installer should be able to get these spacers with no trouble.
Thus, I thought that the door installation would have been the most difficult, however, my installer said that the rear deck was very hard to take apart and then put back together. He spent most of the time installing the two rear Infinities due to this difficulty. All standard wires and cut outs remained the same.
The installed recommended that I retain the stock tweeters in the A piller, and I am glad that I did. The Infinities have a directional center tweeter that rotates up to give a precise sound placement. Now, I get a fantastic
3-D soundstage with some high frequencies coming from the upper tweeters and others coming from the lower tweeters. Big, punchy bass seems to come from all over the car. I can even move the soundstage from the front to the back of the car by fading to either +3 or +2. Take it from me, the Infinity Reference speakers made a tremendous improvement for a small monetary outlay.

I found the factory tweeters to be too harsh and bright after installing my Infinity Kappa's, so I disconnected them....sounds MUCH better now.

That sounds like a fantastic system in your Z. How does the Alpine H/U look in the dash? I know that it is an awesome unit, but I wonder how it affects the overall OEM appearance? Does it have amber illumination?

Pictures don't really do it justice to be quite honest. It looks really good in person and compliments the interior nicely. Amp? Who needs an amp when your headunit has "V-Drive" @ 60x4? This headunit is so powerful, it requires a constant direct connect 10 gauge wire straight to the battery.
