Re: Shutter when OD locks

Maybe you should tell us a little more about your car..... say, the year and model...

Does it happen when it shifts into OD, or when the torque convertor locks up? Each have different things happening... hard to see how TC lockup could be affected by old fluid.

I can see new fluid helping if it happens when shifting into OD, since there are clutches and such involved. But even if it does, it might only be temporary. I don't think it could hurt all that much to try it, though.

I do that drain-and-fill fluid change too, except I do it all at once. After a refill run the engine a few minutes shifting the tranny through gears, then drain again. Also, if you open the plug and let it drain over night... or even over the weekend... you can get a lot more of the fluid on the first drain as 1/3 - 1/2 of the TC's volume slowly drains back into the transmission body... and out the drain.

It only does it during TC lockup, not when shifting to "4th" gear (OD) It's smooth as silk until that final "shift" where the rpms drop a little more (TC lockup) and then like I said not all the time very slight accel, like away from a stoplight when you are not in a hurry and are just putting along is when it is worst. Is it not a solenoid that does the final lockup? could the solenoid be bad or dirty, I know a dirty solenoid can cause havoc on many other types of equipment, I worked on copiers for a while and they are slam full of them, let them get a little dirty and they would be late or fail to operate all together. Clean the thing up a little and it would work fine. Any Ideas? Thanks
