1989 405 Questions

Does anyone know how to read check engine codes on a 1989 Peugeot 405 ?

When I rev the engine over 4500rpm, the check engine light comes on, then once the rpm drops back down to idle, the light goes out.

Also while driving on the highway, the engine will just cut out for a second, causing the car to jerk, and if it gets bad, does it 5 or 6 times a minute, I have to pull over, turn the ignition off, and then restart the car and its fine again.

I think its a problem with the ECU, but it would be nearly impossible, and very costly to find a replacement in Canada.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks John

Check the fuelfilter first, shall be renewed every 3-4 year if i remeber correct, (big and easy to locate beween the motor and the tank) I replaced my Peugeot ECU with an american one...not original of course but good enough and one of those will of course be even cheeper in canada.

Tried changing the filter, and it made no difference. I saw a code reader on ebay a while back, I should have bought it.

GM vehicles can flash the codes to the check engine light if the right two pins are jumpered in the plug for the code reader. I was hoping something like this could be done with this car.
