206 GTi Air Conditioning Illumination

Apr 29, 2004 5 Replies

Hi

Should the buttons on the air conditioning/heating control panel be illuminated when the rest of the dashboard lamps are on? It is rather difficult to control it in the dark. The central display is lit up and dims when the lights are turned on, so it appears there is a signal going to the control panel to do this.

I have a year 2000 206 GTi.

Hi,

I have a 2001 GTi and yes the buttons should light up and the centre display dims when the lights are turned on.

Hope that helps

John

Thanks, I thought that was the case. What I didn't mention - probably due to embarrassment - was that I've had the car four years and when I noticed the lights not on I couldn't actually remember whether they were normally lit up or not!

I don't suppose anyone knows what might have caused this? I would have thought that there was more than one bulb in there, so it is unlikely that it's just a blown bulb. As the centre bit dims when I turn the lights on it also appears that the connection to the panel is okay (this seems to be the only lighting connection to the panel according to the Haynes manual).

I dont know................however I dont think it would be individual lights for each button but rather a single bulb suppling the light through optic fibres similar to what Jaguar do.

Yes I think it probably is too. I might build up the enthusiasm to dismantle it next weekend, although it is just about livable with.

David

If you discover the cure, please let us know.

Cheers

John
