306 1.4 1997

I've had a random problem with my Peugeot 306 since not long after I bought it.

Stalling when engaging the clutch, this can even happen at highish speeds. i.e. 40MPH slowing down, deciding what gear, clutch engaged, the battery warning indicator flickers, then when in to gear all continues as normal.

The car totally stalls and I have to restart the engine when I've come to a stop and it cuts out.

It's had:-

New coil pack, new Idle Control valve (which seemed to be exactly what the problem could lie with), new battery, ecu check (tested as ok)...

Can't think of anything else, but with all this done - the problem has continued. TOTALLY random too, it hasn't gotten any worse, or any better in two years. It can go a week without 'stalling', or it can happen twice in one journey. ODD indeed.

Can any Peugeot geniuses shed any light on this problem?

Thanks. Merry Christmas to all.

This problem occurred on early astra mk 3's I think, it was solved by an ecu upgrade, it could be a sensor problem, such as the camshaft sensor or something..... this would explain why it cuts out when slowing down, I presume you are not accelerating at the time of the stall?

I am no more help than that though, sorry

Hi,

Yeah, I remember of an ECU firmware update for 1.4s, which was said to correct a bad acceleration problem (kind of power lost under hard acceleration, IIRC). Perhaps you should check if your cas has been updated, your Pug dealer should know.
