I understand it's a bastardised Talbot/Simca/Peugeot model but I would still be curious to know who was responsible for it.. (not in a malicious way!!)
Sadly I've owned quite a few of these and they've all been reliable and good workhorses..

It was a bit of an odd car, but in a good way.
I always thought that if you squinted a lot the 306 looks like a rounded off Talbot Horizon.
The Talbot Horizon is 'genetically linked' to the 306, so maybe there's something in that: similar geometry, but less angles.
A 5-door 106 looks like a mini 5-door 306.
306 is a Pininfarina design: not sure about the 309, although it does have 205 design cues (also Pininfarina)... but the 309 is a bit boxy for an Italian design?-- sA

Yeah, the 309 was a Talbot design, I even was told it was originally sold as a Talbot. Technically speaking it's a bit like a long wheelbase 205, many common parts. Here there was a 309 with the G1A which was not available in the 205, though.
The 309 was built in Poissy, previously the SIMCA (which became Talbot when PSA bought the european divisions of Chrysler in 1980 - Rootes in UK, IMO) plant.

According to rootes-chrysler.co.uk it was designed by former chrysler-simca team as a successor to their Simca Horizon miodel after Peugeot took over the ownership and rebadged the company to Talbot.
