406 batttery clamps

Hi,

A dead simple one I hope. Thanks to my brother-in-laws inability to differentiate between + and - I've been forced to change my battery.

The dead simple question is how do I remove the clamps which fit over the terminals on the old battery (the connectors screw onto these clamps). Prising them doesn't work - bits fly off.

Sorry to be such a numbskull.

I had this problem and I didn't realise that the thread part was pushed onto the posts. So I put normal clamps onto the ends of the leads and attached them to the new battery in the normal way. No problems. Then I found that the original battery had normal posts hidden by the thread part - which, from memory, just lifted or twisted off. Presumbly you clean the inside with a wire brush before tapping them onto the new battery. But I think normal clamps are a more certain way of avoiding, or correcting, dirty terminals than the original system.

Since you don't care about damaging the old battery and can always do what I did, you should be able to salvage the thread-part.
