A little off topic (why can't i see my replies)

Bit of strange one this, but sometimes I can post a reply to this group and then the following day I can't see it on the group, but I can read the replies that people have made to my posts. I am baffled by this. It does not seem to do it all the time. Last time was in a reply to "zx1" post from Chrs. I sent a reply which was then answered but I can't see my original reply. I get to the stage that I think did I send that reply ? and then, as if my magic, I get a reply to my reply I can't see. Hope that makes some form of sense to you all. I am sure I will be able to see the replies to this, but not the post itself.

Cheers folks GGJ

Oh I should mention that I have not put myself in the blocked sender by mistake.

Sometimes Blueyonder does that but not to my own posts. Does BT have more than one newsgroup service? BY has a text news which doesn't allow binaries (obviously) and a full monty doobrie. I use the text service mainly because it's a bit quicker but sometimes it drops posts.

What newsreader are you using? It's possible you are using a custom option in the view menu, for example I choose to only view unread messages, so when I refresh the view, all previously viewed messages don't appear.

This is not at all uncommon, particularly with Outlook Express. One cure that works most (but not every) times is to unsubscribe from the group. Close Outlook Express. Open Outlook Express again and re-subscribe to the group. It also helps if you can find the folder where OE stores your emails etc. and look for the file storing the news group (It will be called alt.autos.peugeot.vbx) and delete it before resubscribing. You can find out where OE stores the files by clicking Tools/Options/Maintenance/Store Folder. One other tip is to create a folder in My Documents (call it Outlook Express, Emails or whatever you like) and then use the Store Folder option to tell OE to start storing your email files in it. This makes backing up much easier as emails will be done along with the rest of My Documents. Next time you start OE after making that change it will move the files to the new folder.

What people don't realise is that usenet posts are ephemeral. Old posts, or even current ones, are only visible through bodies like Outlook Express and Google which capture and store posts to the thousands of groups in the usenet. There is no giant usenet server out there. in fact there are a number of bodies which perform this role. So your post to any group is probably stored in a dozen different places around the world. So the sorts of problem you describe are probably attributable to the body through which you access the group. So try others. I have rarely experienced problems with Google.

Many thanks for all your replies, I will be trying them out later, so if I vanish from the news group forever then you know I have made a right c*ck up and lost my patience and dumped the pc in the bin. Hope to post later. GGJ
