ABS fault light intermittently flashing - 605

For a few weeks the ABS light on the dashboard has been flashing intermittently, but a few days ago came on and now won't go out. The car brakes perfectly ok but I assume the ABS doesn't work, but haven't found that out yet. Can anyone offer any ideas? I initially suspected a bad connection but have no idea where to look for the appropriate electronics. Any help appreciated. Mike T

Wheel sensors are often the cause of this problem. replacing each sensor in turn with a resistor 500 -1000 ohms and seeing when the light goes out might help you locate which wheel.

Hi Mike

For a Bendix system, the wheel sensors' resistance should be 1000-1400 ohms. You can measure the sensors by unplugging the connection to the wiring harness. The front sensors gap is adjustable, the rear sensors' is not adjustable. As Bob said, the wheel sensors are the most likely source of your trouble. Note that the ABS ECU stores errors and the codes can be read. If the sensors are OK, you might try disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes, to reset the ECU. If the error resurfaces, get someone to read the codes!

On a 405 my first action was to pull off and then reconnect one by one the connections at the unit inside the engine bay on the driver's side wing. This cured it. Wherever the unit is I would try the simplest option first...
