Hi,

I've just noticed the my 20 month old Peugeot 407 Executive is showing signs of damage to the lacquer at 2 places on the bonnet. Both areas are about 4.0 cm in diameter. The lacquer around the edge is also loose in parts so no doubt the damage will extend very quickly in time as the damage so far has happened almost overnight.

I will be taking it to a main dealer to get their views on whether it is covered under the 2 year warranty [} but as that states "damage to body paintwork or lacquer caused by ..... projections of gravel ..." is not covered I am not hopeful as the bonnet has stone chips in other places & I suspect they will say that is to blame.

Any views please before I do that would be welcome.

With 40 years of experience of cars this is the first time that I have ever seen the clear lacquer separating away from the paint layer underneath. Is it something unique to Peugeots?

If I am faced with a repair at my own cost what are the options? Is it a whole bonnet re spray of just the damage? Might I be able to do it myself with an aerosol tin of clear lacquer?

Definitely not unique to Peugeots, I had a jaguar which the lacquer came away from the paint, mainly on the boot though, and I have seen it on quite a few other cars. A metrocab taxi was the last one I saw it happening to and that was only 2 weeks ago
