That makes sense to me, along with oil changes, exhaust fitting and new tyres. There are places that can do it cheaper than you can buy the parts for.

=A320ish for a belt from pug, few spanners, couple of hours spare and you can do it yourself. You dont need special tools other than a torque wrench for the main pulley bolt, these engines arent that delicate - ive worked on 3 of them so far and changed all belts by "90 degree at longest stretch" method. It needs no special locking tools, and no real experience (it was my first cam belt change actually!). Totted up >50K miles on one and the other two did >20k that i know of before being sold on.

It is good to change the belt though, even if you got it done at a local garage it shouldnt be far off =A3100 all in.

Quotes from real garages of £100 ish, or £146+Vat from 2 Pug main Stealers. One said 8 years and 72k miles other said 9 years and 80k miles....

Might as well get it done as car is 8 in Aug, it has not been driven for 2.5 years and has done about 32000.

Thanks for help folks..

Dont think id ever leave a belt 8 years, the material perishes with time as well as use - id go with 5 years or the recommended milage (you never know if someone used a cheap belt thats not as good as OE). Good choice, a decent local garage will see you thru - just make sure you dont notice any whines or change in performance afterwards (tight belt or badly re-aligned timing, as my friend had from a stealer.)

Me too. Negates the point of doing it if that is the case, IMHO.
