Service indicator on 99 406 HDI GLX

can anyone tell me how to reset the service indicator?

The car is going to be serviced this week - but the local garage is not sure how to reset the indicator. Right now I have 50 miles left and the spanner symbol is active... but after the service I will have 6,000 (about 6 weeks driving!) before the next service at 72,000 miles.

It doesn't really matter what the figure is as long as it is in 6,000 intervals.

Thanks in advance.

RESETTING SERVICE INTERVAL ON 406

make sure the car is switched off, including the ignition, next to the temp gauge there is a small black button; hold it in, switch on ignition. The display starts a 10 second countdown, keep button held down for the ten seconds, The display shows 0, and the service symbol disappears. that's it!! If by chance you happen to take your finger off the button before ten seconds are up, it will give a shorter service interval, such as 6000 or

9000, to reset it go through the whole thing again.

You don't normally reset the service indicator for intermediate checks i.e.

6K, 18K etc. Only reset it for the main ones as in 12K, 24K etc. So in your case leave it until it goes in for it's 72K Service.

Hope this helps,

Nick.

the place I bought the car from reset the interval to 12,000 miles at the

54k service. Now it is at zero on an intermediate... so I was hoping to reset to 6k or 18k to bring it back in line for the 72k or 84k service... does that make sense?

Will the indicator actually read negative figures? What I am thinking is - if I don't reset for another 6k miles... will it read -1000, -2000 etc etc?

Thanks again for all your help.

AFAIK is does go negative but you can reset it to get rid of the spanner icon if it irritates you. Just remember to reset it again at 72K to bring it back into line. Oli pointed out that if you release the button on the dash before the ten second countdown has completed then you may be able to set it to 6K. I haven't tried this myself though.

Thanks again,

what I'll likely do is reset to 12k now and at the 72k service reset again to bring it back in line. It's not a big deal as I'll likely be at the 72k service by mid November.

Cheers,

Ken.
