XID diesel motor?

Feb 16, 2004 3 Replies

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a place I may buy an XID diesel motor for my 304 in Europe?

This is the same motor as fitted to 77-82 305. I am in Greece.

Hi Jeff,

I'm coming late once again :-(

No clue, as I've never seen an XID. I know it's the engine fitted on Mk1

305s, as 82- models used the XUD. They could be slightly different, as the 205 had to be modded (+1 or 2cm on front wheels gap) to fit the XUD in - may well explain why there isn't that much room in 205s/309s XU/XUD powered engine bay. I went out to the Web to find some data, not found much, but the XID is a 1548cc engine, I guess it's really not only a chain-driven XUD. Moreover the XUD was a "high-tech" engine, when it was released in 1980 (as the XU was).

The XID is a chain driven engine with the gearbox under the engine. The engine cooling fan was diven off the crankshaft pulley via a belt the did a 90 degree turn via two jockey wheels. Really weird to look at, but easy to change once you've done a couple. The clutch was a bit of a pain to do, and expensive as it came with the flywheel as I recall. There was a petrol version, which was slightly more common in the UK.
