1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE Problem

Jan 22, 2005 1 Replies

I have a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. When I try to pop the hood, I pull the lever all the way out but the hood doen't pop. I've tried this in warm weather as well as cold so I know it's not frozen. Does anyone know of another way to open the hood or know what could be wrong?

Thanks, Mike

Is there an aftermarket hood lock installed from an alarm company?

Was it rently in the body shop for any front end body work?

Have someone press down on the end of the hood while you pull the hood release. There may be a strain on the lock mechanism.

Possible problems:

  1. Hood Mechanism binding or gummed up.

  1. Hood release cable broke.

  2. Hood Release Lever broke off cable.

Try spraying the lock mechanism with some WD - 40 and see if it helps. You can reach up between the grille and the AC condensor to spray it. Or shoot through the grille.

Goog Luck.
