96 Sunfire misfiring

Aug 28, 2003 3 Replies

I have a 96 Sunfire that cuts-out on the highway. We've done a tune-up, replaced all filters and pcv valve, replaced wires, and it still does it. In park, you can rev the motor up to 4000 rpms and she will cut out, rev back to 4000 rpm, cut out, etc. Fuel pressure is okay. Diagnostic says no problem. My mechanic is scratching his head.

Help me please.

GMs make torque low anyway, don't NEED to go to 6000RPM like a Toyota. :-P

No, I was just making a joke. 'Fraid I can't help. Incidentally, the FieroGT I drove had an upshift light, it came on at around the 4500 mark.

yes the car is designed to do this in park, my 95 Grand Prix does the same thing.....try it inn neutral, the car should rev up to 6000, how about when you are driving down the highway....can you go past 4000 RPM??
