’98 SUNFIRE INTERMITTENT START PROBLEM

Sometimes my ?98 Sunfire won?t start until I tap the starter with a hammer but that does not always work. When it doesn?t start there is no click, no starter turnover, no nothing when I turn the key. Battery is OK because radio goes on and because I thoroughly cleaned and tightened the cables. I do sometimes have problems shifting it in and out of Park. I would appreciate any help I can get.
