99 Bonneville - change to solid antenna?

Sep 13, 2009 4 Replies

I have a dead antenna motor and a mast that is slightly bent from the car wash. Can I replace dead power antenna with a solid whip antenna.

Questions are:

  1. was a factory solid OEM antenna ever offered on 99 Bonneville's ordid they only come from the factory with power antenna?
  2. is the mounting hole the same size so that I can down grade from a power to a factory whip antenna?

I have seen universal stainless steel antennas for around $10.00 but am hesitant to buy one if I need to drilll a bigger hole. I would rather have an OEM stick / whip antenna. I need to know if the 99 Bonneville's ever had a whip antenna from the factory.

Don't know if the Booneville did, but many other GM vehicles use the same basic power antenna unit and DID come with a fixed whip antenna. Pull the power unit, check the hole sise, and then cruise the scrappy to see what has something that will fit.

I live next to a pick & pull yard, but doing that means that I have to remove antennas just to check the hole size which requires an investment of time. As you can guess, I was hoping to hear from someone who can say that they have an 99 Bonneville with a whip antenna.

Yes, the 99 SE had a solid antenna. I saw a picture of one on Flickr.com

The base may be a diiferent size than the power mast base. On my 91 the base size were different between power & standard.
