Car Repair Guides

Hi All, Are there any online that I can read? I'm just starting to learn about cars and don't want to shell out $30 for a book right now.

Thanks, Bill

The internet cops have pretty much shut down most sites that offered online manuals. If you don't want to buy a manual, but still insist on doing the "simple" things on your car then go see if your local library has a manual to cover your make and model year.

$30 for a manual is going to be the cheapest expense you will encure in your goal of learning how to maintain your car. Like was mentioned in your other post Don't skimp on the tools, buy something good. Dont buy something from the "lucky star tool company" you'll see at the local flea markets.

Look on Amazon.com and E-bay. A lot of times you can find a good used manual pretty cheap. It's not like you need a "virgin" one... because you're just gonna put your greasy fingers all over it anyway! >;-}

Library. I get my books from the library. I go online to the library's website and do a title or subject search of all the area's libraries. I have them send the books to my local branch (6 blocks away), they email when they are in, and I go get them - sometimes walk there and back. Yesterday I picked up a Haynes and Motors for my son's Dodge. I renew them online if I need more time.

You might want to just change your mind. Repairing your own car will save you $1000 a year or maybe more. Some factory manuals are very expensive and well worth it. Manuals you can buy in the store are $30, but they're not very good. It kind of depends on what kind of car you have.

Some GM shop manauls are very cheap. If you're lazy, you can look at them on ebay and see which ones are the cheap ones.

I want to start learning about cars on the one I already own and once I know enough to get in trouble I want to buy an old car and restore it as a hobby

The public library will lend them out to you for the cost of getting a membership card ... usually that is free.
