grand am defroster help needed

Hi everyone,

I have a 94 G. Am who's defroster suddenly stopped working. The heat works but it won't switch from the dash vents to the defroster vents or any where else.

Does anyone know if this model/year still works on vacuum?

My auto mechanic buddy says he thinks they are controlled by a solenoid.

I would appreciate any help or ideas before I start taking the dash apart on this thing.

By the way, I did check the prints in the Haynes manual I have but I couldn't find mention of a solenoid.

It's vacuum. I went out and checked mine and the blend door vac motor sounds like it is to the right of the console close to the radio.

You will often find the source of the vacuum problem under the hood rather than under the dash.
