Sunbird 94 alternator prob.....

Allo!

For few weeks now, my mechanic told me that my alternator bearings have to be replaced. I waited...... ;(( The alternator was making a squealing sound..... but was running ok. Tonight, the sound was a little louder..... I left work and at ½ the run, the "anti-lock" light lited....... I continued..... When I got to my parking place, I putted the reverse and the power failed and I had just enough "swing" to get into my place... I tried to re-start the car but the boards lights were like flashing and car couldn't start.

What could be faulty?? Only my alternator or something else could be wrong?? Should I remove the alternator and make it fix and try again??

Merci for your time......

Sounds like the alternator quit and the battery went dead. Check the alt output at the battery. It should measure at least 13v with the engine running at high idle.

If you lack time, tools, desire, work place, or knowledge to fix your car then you will need to get it to someone that does. Ask around your area of the world for a nearby reputable shop.

I knew that but I thought I was able to change it!

And, in fact, I did replace it with a Bosch and Bingo!!

I am not a pro but I am curious....

Merci for the ones who helped me.

I hope you had your battery fully charged before installing that alternator, or it won't last long. Bosch had a bulletin out about that.
