Water Level dash light on 2000 Gr AM

Jul 16, 2003 4 Replies

Hi: My wife drives a 2000 Grand AM with 2.4L, AC, Electric doors/windows. It now has 75,000 miles on it and lately she says the "Low Coolant" light flashes when she starts the car. I tried it and she is correct it flashes about 3-4 times then goes out. I added coolant as the Recovery Jug was empty then drove the car around a bit but the light did not come on again. I restarted the car a couple of times and the light continues to flash 3-4 times and go out. Could this be a brewing problem or am I over reacting? It's important because she travels 100 miles daily for Cancer treatment and needs reliable transportation.

Thanks.

Umm ... I'm gonna assume it's part of the startup diags that the dash puts itself through. You know .. kinda like the ABS and brake lights ...

I know of my 90 olds, the Low Coolant light comes on when I first start the car, and then goes off after the dash has finished doing it's thang.

Worst comes to worst, consult the owners manual for what the light is SUPPOSE to do upon startup.

Yeah, that would be the thing to do....if I can find the manual.

The wife is convinced that this the light did not stay on after startup and dash lights went off but I'm not so sure. It does stay on longer than the others except the seat belt light.

She is hopefully overreacting (Cancer treatment makes her that way sometimes)....guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

Thanks.
