When this setup is finished and lit, the front of 570ZX's 1993 300ZX Z32 will carry a headlight design made just for the custom widebody, with 3-inch Bi-LED projectors doing the main work and accent strips plus two lower LEDs per projector adding light below. It is one part of a bigger build the maker calls Project 001, on a car that also gets a 5.7 Hemi swap and bodywork developed from scratch.

The way it is put together stands out. A Morimoto M-LED 2.0 Bi-LED projector assembly serves as the starting point for the custom design, and the projector lens is held to the printed mounting bracket with plastic zip ties, which seems a simple and serviceable choice for a prototype. The factory rubber perimeter gasket is reused with the new housing, and a Morimoto XBT Bluetooth controller box, flexible diffuser strips, and the Profile Performance accent strips are all part of the parts pile on the bench.

The first housing was printed in a copper-toned silk PLA, in several segments joined at a visible seam. The insert has a round projector aperture, a horizontal recess, and six angled lower vent slots. The test fit happened outdoors on the partially disassembled car: the gasket went over the prototype, the unit was installed into the front fascia, and the light-colored bumper cover sat loosely around the base with a visible gap. The prototype was also compared against the vehicle's factory headlight unit.

There are honest open points. Layer lines, seam splits, warping, and fitment issues with the projector mounting plate and LED strip channels all need work, the maker feels the housing must be beefier to replace the assembly, and it is still unclear whether the two lower LEDs can make up for the cutoff the housing causes, or whether a full redesign is needed. The final version is planned in glass-fiber reinforced ASA.

Curious how the projector is aimed with the zip tie mounting. With the lens held to the printed bracket by ties alone, is there any adjustment left once the housing is in the car, or does the maker plan to build adjustability into the revised bracket?

Reusing the factory rubber perimeter gasket with the prototype seems clever to me. It means the printed housing has to match the original sealing surface, so any geometry mistake shows up immediately at test fit instead of hiding until the final version. The trade-off is that the prototype cannot cheat on dimensions, but for a design meant for a real car that seems like the right kind of pressure.

Since the final part is planned in glass-fiber reinforced ASA anyway, it might be worth printing a revised bracket iteration in that material early. If the housing needs to be beefier to replace the whole assembly, testing the stiffer material at the bracket stage could show whether the zip tie mounting holds up before the full redesign question gets settled.

On the aiming question, the maker has not said how adjustment is handled with the zip tie mounting. What is known is that the projector lens is secured to the printed mounting bracket with plastic zip ties, and that there are fitment issues with the projector mounting plate that need revisions, so the mounting method may still change.
