Guide to replacing head gasket?

Hello.My headgasket is in dire need of replacement (the coolant is leaking between the head and the cylinders). Does anyone have a guide to doing this?

I had this problem as well on a brand new cityrover. I was able to stop the leak with a leak pellet. If you have not trie dthis you mihgt want to before spending a lot of money.

If you end up changing the gasket dont use a cheapie. Else you'll have it to do again in about 6 weeks.Personal experience. Costs a lot more in the long runIan

I'm in the process of replacing the head gasket on my rover 400 (1.6 16valve). They provide steel dowel pins to replace the plastic ones. These are a really tight fit. I finished the job but then found I had no compression! So I'm just about to stip it all down again. Buy the Hayes manual-it's worth it. I'll let you know if/when I succeed!

I completed my head gasket replacement on the 1.6 16 valve (dual crankshaft).One point to watch out for; despite the dowels, it IS possible to fit the camshaft drive spockets on 180 degrees out of phase!I reckon I can now do the job in 8-10 hours.
