Starting Probs on a 1996 200

Anyone else had this problem?? It 'feels' like the battery is flat, and the starter is reluctant to turn the engine over, but normally, you just go for it, and it'll start within a few seconds.. Sometimes, when it's really cold, it'll take a little longer. It generally turns very very slowly. I know this sounds like a battery problem, but even when I replaced the battery a year ago, the 'problem' remained....

Cheers

You have a damp / knackered coil and HT lead, our 220 coupe odes that. Turn off all other electrics (radio and fan) give it a go and it should start. Change the HT leads as well

If you're certain that the battery is fully charged (have you checked?) then I'd suspect dodgy cables or corroded connectors between the battery and starter motor. You can check the resistance of the cables, both positive and the earth strap, with a multimeter and, whilst you're about it, clean the connections back to bright metal. If the problem persists then I suspect that the starter motor itself is on it's last legs.

OTOH, if the battery is not fully charged, then check that the charging system is working properly.
