V8 disappointment

Hi

I have been looking at the specs of the 75 V8 and must say that I am not to impressed.

I was under the impression that the ford V8 was a modern and improved alternative to the Rover (Buick) V8 that used to be installed.

The reason of my disappointment? A 4.6 litre V8 and the power out put is only 260bhp? what's the point?

the Ford Duratec 3 litre V6 turns out 226bhp and is probably capable of more.

Regards

What? the whole car?

Nope, that got sold to Ford along with Land Rover as it was only used in them. Gotta laugh though, BMW selling Ford and old GM engine ;-) It also wouldn't meet the new EU emission regs.

Huh? The old Buick V8 was only 155bhp in standard form, 190bhp in the SD1 Vitesse.

Key factors why they've used it are:

  1. It came with the Qvale Mangusta they bought up, which is now the MG SV
  2. Its a Yank Ford lump so is already 'fedralised', so they can sell it in the USA!

Well the Aussie supercharged KV6 2.5 litre turns out 220bhp... so whats the point of the Duratec? (and what is with these stupid Ford monikers they stick on their manky old engines?)

I think it was on Tue, 08 Feb 2005 09:59:47 GMT that "Vertuas" announced to the world:

It's lifted from the current Mustang isn't it? I think it's a pretty crude 2 valves per cylinder jobbie that is tuned for torque rather than out and out power. I suspect that on the road the V8 75 will feel a lot better than the figures may suggest...
