Hello people, A few months ago I got some good guidance while doing my head gasket. I'm now dealing with a what is usually a simple job...... I say USUALLY! Some of you know what I'm talking about. In my search for an answer I did a search of the archives and found the below post from years ago. I'm on the road and don't have all my regular tools with me or else I might try removing the mounting plate. That bottom bolt is truly a bear! Duane says we don't have remove the bottom bolt, and alls we have to do is rotate CCW (counter clockwise, I assume). Any can shed some light on this approach? Is he joking? Thanks in advance, Dharam, stuck in NY

You don't have to remove the mounting plate. Leave the bottom bolt connected and you can pivit it CCW so the alt mounting bolt clears the firewall. Seems to me it's perfectly thought out design, just not completely obvious until someone shows you the trick. I just did one that has the firewall *destroyed" where the bolt *would* hit it. They didn't know the trick!
