Hi All



Need some assistance from the 9-5'ers . I am currently thinking of changing from my 1996 900S to a post 1999 9-5. I have a 2000 9-5 2.0 lpt in my sights but I have two questions I would like to have answers for.


1 At what mileage should the timing chain be changed and at what intervals thereafter? (There are 100K miles on the target car and it was last serviced at 83K when the timing chain was changed. The car has a fully documented service history as well.)


2 What are optic headlights and how do they work? (There are twin optic headlights on the car I am interested in.)



As an aside, I would have liked a 2000 9-5 Aero but just don't have the readies. :(

We have a '95 900S 2.3 na and a '01 9-5 wagon 2.3 lpt. AFAIK the timing chain is never replaced as part of regular preventative maintenance. The timing BELTS in the GM V6's needed replacement every 30K mi. but you are certainly not considering one of them, right! ;-)

I don't know about the 'optic' headlights. Here in the US the 'early' style

9-5's were only available with incandescent bulb headlights, just like the ones in your 900S, only different and brighter bulbs. HID's are an option here on the new style 9-5's.

You'll love the 9-5 after the 900.

Incandescent bulbs? You mean halogen. :-)) There's a difference. "Optic lights" weren't offered on 2000 era 9-5's, but they became an option on the 2002 MYR and on.
