9000 Won't Start anyone got a clue?

Have today purchased a 1996 9000 CSE. Auto box 2.3 Full Pressure Turbo. :-)))))

Drove away from dealers fine, stopped at post office for 10 minutes to get a tax disc. Then stopped at garage for a full tank of fuel.

Drove 30 miles home to Wakefield and parked in Halfords car park to go and buy tax disc holder and other odds n sods you always need for new car.

Car refused to start, turns over ok, but does not fire. Tried arming and disarming alarm, locking and unlocking doors. To no avail. :-((

Car has been recovered to my favourite SAAB specialist in West Yorkshire. Recovery guy checked fuel pump working ok, also there is a signal at the Direct Ignition (DI)unit. He feels it is a faulty DI unit.

No warning in the hour or so I owned this car before it happened.

Can anyone help please Give me a clue as to what might be wrong. I know, "How long is a piece of string?"

I trust my specialist to get the car fixed, and I am confident he won't turn me over,(con me)

Big problem is my good lady wants to know how much is this going to cost given that I have just paid out to buy the car!!!!

As for warranty work, well that all depends what's wrong with her, if it's the DI it aint covered. (shocked looks all round yeah..........)

Thanks folks, you've helped me before and I know you will again...

Have A new mercedes that did same thing. For 2 years they tried to figure out the problem. and finally it was the computer ignition unit. the key would turn the car over but the defective chip though it was another key. IT actually part of the theft system. good luck gene
