'94 9000 - how on earth do you replace a sidelight ?

Just getting the MOT renewed on my older 9000.

How *do* you replace the front sidelight bulb ? Does the glass have to come off - or does the entire lamp assembly need to be removed ?

I never worked out how to do it when I had a 9000, when I had to do it, it seemed to be easier to remove the headlamp glass. The radiator grille comes off (a couple of Torx screws), you unclip the indicator unit (there is a spring clip you get at from the engine bay) and then two bolts to remove the headlamp assembly (not forgetting to disconnect the wires to the bulbs). Take the unit inside where it is warm and dry and remove the glass which is held on with several spring clips do it over a thick towel or the carpet - take care you don't break the glass, new ones are/were £50 plus! Change the bulb, a normal bayonet type fitting, twist and pull, give the inside, glass and rubber seal a good clean, check the electrical contacts inside and out for any corrosion and then, as Mr Haynes would say, reassembly is the reverse of the above.

I'm damm sure that you can change the bulbs without this fuss but I could never manage it. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell us how to do it properly.

Cheers,

Andy

You said the "sidelight", as in the one on the fender, not the "CORNER" light, correct?

If so, just pry it out by using a flat head screwdriver, and it's that simple.

I don't know what you mean by a 'corner light'. In any case there isn't a light on the fender.

FWIW I'm referring to the 4 watt bulb that's in the light cluster along with the

2 headlamp bulbs.

the 2 headlamp

All 9000's and even 900's, lilkely all SAAB's currently on the road have a turn signal light on the fender.

But to answer your question, The corner light next to the headlight is fastened by a spring clip made of stainless steel hard wire. Pop it off to push the corner light assembly forward and out. After the clip is loose, the assembly is wedged in place by only a plastic finger into a hole on the car body. The procedure applies to model years 94 to 98. This is another example of the elegantly simply design of the 9k.

No, it applies to ALL models with the CS-front - also 92 - 93 models. ;o)

Not here.

There's what we call a 'repeater' on the side of the front wing though.

Mmmm - but the small 4W bulb is in the same assembly as the headlight.

What you're talking about sounds like the 'turn signal' assembly to me.
