Well, now that it's snowing again maybe I don't need this right away. But can someone give me a basic checkout procedure for the AC? is there a way to tell if the compressor is dead or I just have lost pressure for some reason? My goal is to see if I can buy the parts on line.

Well a very basic test will be to run the engine with the A/C on, does the compressor clutch engage periodically?
You should find that one of the A/C pipes is hot and the other is cold as in very cold, not just ambient cold.
If not then it could be loss of refrigerant/compressor as a starting point - assuming that there are no leaks.

You need to jump the low pressure switch - if the compressor kicks in, you're just low on freon because of a leak.

Thanks... - sorry... it's a 1998 900S. I'm pretty sure the compressor doesn't cycle. It's not real obvious where to look on this site. It's not a FAQ anyway. I'd just need the location of the pressure switch...
